Communications Coordinator

 

ABOUT DJDS

 

DJDS is a non profit architecture and real estate development firm that innovates in and around the built environment to address the root causes of mass incarceration with a focus on restorative justice and restorative economics. To achieve this mission the team is comprised of architects, designers, real estate developers, operations/events production  and community organizers within which the production designs and administrative lead is an integrated part of a multidisciplinary team.  The unique position supports the internal and external communication tone of the organization.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES (Coordinator Level, 2-5 years experience)

 

  • Represent the organization in voice, tone, content and public dialogue and discourse.
  • Collaborate with Director of Advocacy and Development Director to create and implement an annual communications plan 
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop a voice, tone and outward energy for the organization. 
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop a writing style guide. 
  • Conduct an audit of all the current communications platforms and their uses at DJDS and draft a proposal for communication platforms and their respective functions moving forward.
  • Collaborate with Directors and Project Managers in developing consistent external communications regarding DJDS projects, and overall development updates.
  • In partnership with the Director of Advocacy, craft and maintain public announcements and long form posts and articles and manage responses.
  • Collaborate with DJDS Public Relations contractor for marketing campaign timelines and initiatives.
  • Maintain an information gathering, drafting, editing a publishing calendar for the organization.
  • Use unique skillset, background, and talents to optimize solutions for assigned projects.
  • Manage all organizational social media presence.
  • Manage organizational email marketing. 
  • Manage any other communications platforms we choose to use and maintain.
  • Become familiar with local government officials, policies, laws, and local drivers for assigned projects, where necessary.
  • Stay up to date on latest publications and news regarding relevant subject matter such as restorative justice, and community development research and initiatives.
  • Articulate goals, uncertainties, and opportunities to internal and external stakeholders in easily understood formats.
  • Support on special content projects as they arise. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

(Expected duties of a Coordinator level position)

  • Work in a support role to the Directors as it pertains to the positions area of responsibility outlined above.
  • Communicate necessary deadlines to stakeholders including outlines of solutions for delayed or missed deadlines.
  • Take notes at project meetings and discussions as requested.
  • Collaborate with relevant Directors to manage external consultants when necessary.
  • Initiate, build and manage relationships with project partners and community stakeholders. 
  • Report regular updates to DJDS Leadership team.
  • Seek opportunities to elevate knowledge and skills for yourself and teammates
  • Apply expertise and passion to assigned duties.
  • Process expenses for travel and other special projects as assigned.

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION

 

  • Healthcare benefits with options for medical insurance under the company group plan. Employer contributes 100% of employee healthcare offered under the group healthcare offerings.
  • Compensation for this role will not exceed $70,000
