Community Engagement Manager

 

ABOUT DJDS

 

DJDS is a non profit architecture and real estate development firm that innovates in and around the built environment to address the root causes of mass incarceration with a focus on restorative justice and restorative economics. To achieve this mission the team is comprised of architects, designers, real estate developers, operations/events production  and community organizers within which the production designs and administrative lead is an integrated part of a multidisciplinary team.  This unique position manages the project onboarding and implementation of Community Engagement strategies.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES (Manager level, 5-7 years experience)

 

  • Collaborate with the Director of Community Engagement to develop a voice, tone and outward energy with local communities. This includes, but is not limited to drafting copy for written communications and communication style guide for specific communities.
  • Collaborate with the Director for Community Engagement to develop consistent Community Engagement processes, and apply experience in community engagement to advise on and develop strategies for DJDS.
  • In partnership with the Director for Community Engagement, craft and maintain public announcements regarding upcoming events, and strategize social media posts around community engagement. 
  • Maintain an information gathering, drafting, editing an event calendar for community engagement.
  • Use unique skill set, background, and talents to optimize solutions for assigned projects.
  • Advise on community engagement aspect of email marketing campaigns. 
  • Become familiar with local government officials, policies, laws, and local drivers for community engagement projects, where necessary.
  • Attend project onboarding meetings to take notes and synthesize for the Community Engagement Director
  • Articulate goals, uncertainties, and opportunities to internal and external stakeholders in easily understood formats.
  • Support on special community engagement projects as they arise. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

(Expected duties of a Manager level position)

  • Manage progress and budget of assigned projects.
  • Communicate necessary deadlines to stakeholders including outlines of solutions for delayed or missed deadlines.
  • Lead project meetings and discussions
  • Act as key decision maker for progress of assigned projects
  • Review and approve expenses for assigned projects.
  • Monitor compliance of each project’s contractual obligations.
  • Initiate, build and manage relationships with project partners and community stakeholders. 
  • Report regular updates to DJDS Leadership team.
  • Mentor and guide other members of the team.
  • Facilitate and participate in knowledge sharing workshops/presentations to elevate the organizational skills 
  • Participate in speaking engagements and press related interviews on behalf of DJDS
  • Integrate efforts and schedules with all departments of the organization: design, real estate, advocacy, and community engagement for each project.
  • Attend and participate in thought leadership of DJDS prototypes and typologies through Hive Mind sessions.

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION

 

  • Healthcare benefits with options for medical insurance under the company group plan. Employer contributes 100% of employee healthcare offered under the group healthcare offerings.
  • Compensation for this role will not exceed $80,000
